If you’re here, then you would know either one of us. Just two Asians who moved to Melbourne and met in early 2019. Four years later, we’ve decided to make here our home. 🏡
We live with two dogs: a naughty, barky yorkie named Nami and a small, greedy yorkie-maltese mix named Kino.

We’re almost kinda super opposites and somehow that just works.
We like living in outer Melbourne, a bit far from the city. Dylan goes fishing after work and on weekends on good weather and mountain biking when he feels like it. Camille is lazier, but goes where Dylan goes.
We live quite boring lives. We’re always up for a drive for an hour or two for beaches, fishing, eating out with friends, or any activity that Dylan thinks are “not boring” on good days. We’re a pretty much domesticated couple, enjoying life with two dogs while making sure the grass is mowed at home every two weeks.
Some days Camille bunks down to read a book, or drags Dylan to watch musicals in the city — but usually she is on pet duty. That means keeping Nami and Kino out of trouble (usually Nami) when they are out and about while Dylan is fishing.
Did we mention Dylan is always fishing?
What’s it like living in Melbourne?
Thanks to Pieter Levels’ Hoodmaps, you can see a stereotypical snapshot of Melbourne’s (mostly) inner hoods. We’re both from Asia so we weren’t always so used to how chill life is in Australia culturally — but we love that. We get a life outside of work, the rat race feels a little less like an endless wheel of making money for someone else.
Melbourne is a very diverse city although it is still second in population size compared to Sydney. The weather can be erratic, eating out is damn expensive, rent AND property prices are both out of control but hey, there’s no perfect city.
Asian food is never as good as what we eat back home but it’s all good enough. We have our choices of Japanese, Greek, Italian, Indonesian, Malaysian, Filipino, Sri Lankan, Indian, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Western food so the most important thing in life — MEALS — never get boring.
Driving to hot springs, beaches, mountains for hiking, lakes, rivers, and natural parks are so easy. There’s something to see or do an hour or two or three hours away. There’s comedy shows, concerts, plays and musicals all year round.
The only downside is that Australia is so far away from the rest of the world, it usually costs an arm and a leg to travel internationally. But honestly, all things considered, it really is a great place to live in.
